Quality management is long-term work
Snellman’s roots go back to the 1950s, when meat processing began with sausages by the Snellman brothers. From the very beginning, product quality has been at the core of operations, and the organization has worked consistently to maintain it. The Snellman Group employs approximately 1,700 professionals, and its operations are divided into meat processing and ready-made meals.
Customer case in brief:
INITIAL SITUATION: With the company’s first certification, a need arose for a system that would support preparation for audits and follow-up assessments in line with standards.
SOLUTION: IMS software, where a process tree was built to describe organizational operations, self-monitoring was implemented within IMS, and documentation from the ERP system was fully linked to IMS. Organization-wide guidelines were also integrated into IMS.
RESULTS: IMS has made it easier to apply for certifications and to prepare for audits and follow-up assessments. Maintaining bilingual self-monitoring is also smooth thanks to the software’s functionalities. IMS has brought ease and efficiency to our customer’s daily operations.

Initial situation
Snellman’s operations are guided by certifications ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 5001, and the food safety standard FSSC 22000.
At the time of applying for the first certification, the organization did not yet have its own management system, and documentation was collected from scattered locations—employees’ personal computers.
“With the first certification, we needed a system that would support audits and follow-up assessments. As a management system, IMS aligns well with the process-oriented thinking of standards,” says Raija Lillqvist, Quality System Manager.
Solution
Snellman adopted the SaaS-based IMS management system platform in 2012.
With the platform, the customer has:
- Built a process tree covering all organizational operations
- Linked all ERP system documentation into IMS
- Implemented self-monitoring within IMS – all documentation is electronic
- Simplified certification processes and preparation for audits and follow-up assessments
Results
The management system has made certification processes, audits, and preparation for follow-up assessments easier.
Quality management has also become clearer, and IMS has been rolled out across the entire organization.
“The ease of use of IMS is evident in our daily work. It’s easy to search for information in the system, even if you don’t immediately know where to find it. The simple homepage makes navigation convenient,” says Raija Lillqvist.
Self-monitoring documentation has been built in IMS according to the customer’s needs in two languages: Finnish and Swedish. Raija also mentions that English is gradually being introduced.
“Utilizing different language versions in IMS has been important for our operations, as self-monitoring is a key part of everyday production. Being able to manage self-monitoring in one’s native language is significant, and the different language versions in IMS support this very well.”
Having documentation available in one’s native language reduces errors and misunderstandings.
Raija notes that IMS is clear in terms of language versions: the correct and up-to-date documentation is accessible to everyone, and managing language versions is easy.
“Using IMS has significantly eased and streamlined our daily work. In addition to self-monitoring, the platform also includes group-wide guidelines, such as HR and onboarding instructions,” says Raija Lillqvist.
