Measuring and Concretely Developing Processes

Identify and define process metrics, and turn development needs into concrete action

Measuring processes is a core part of managing them, and the starting point for continuous improvement. In this training, we walk through a tight package of methods and tools for identifying and defining process metrics.

Measurement, evaluation, and process-related problem-solving are what get process development moving toward its target state.

Identifying process metrics comes down to three main approaches: metrics derived from strategy, operational metrics derived from stakeholder expectations and requirements, and leading indicators that support both strategic and operational outcome metrics. In ISO standards, process development is largely left as a general requirement for “continuous improvement” — without concrete tools to back it up.

In this training, we go through concrete tools for identifying development needs, with hands-on exercises, and put together an action plan to carry out the development need you’ve identified. It’s also important to spread a successful improvement to other relevant areas of the organization.
